A 20-year-old Gainesville driver was killed in a wreck Friday afternoon on Browns Bridge Road/Ga. 369 at Memorial Park Drive, according to authorities.

Cassandra Rivera-Elizarraraz was driving eastbound on Browns Bridge Road in the left lane around 5:45 p.m. Friday in a Ford Explorer.

A Honda Accord driven by Marvin Shane Pilcher, 30, of Cumming was in the right lane headed westbound on Browns Bridge Road.

“While (the Ford Explorer) was negotiating a curve to the left, (the Explorer) failed to maintain its proper lane and traveled into the westbound lanes of (Browns Bridge Road),” according to Georgia State Patrol.

Rivera-Elizarraraz’s car struck Pilcher’s car head-on in the westbound outside lane of Browns Bridge Road, according to state patrol.

As the cars rotated counterclockwise, Rivera-Elizarraraz’s car traveled backward and struck the front of a GMC Acadia driven by Deborah Joyce Howard, 61, of Flowery Branch.

Gainesville Fire officials said two people were transported from the scene in serious condition.

State patrol said Elizarraraz died, and Pilcher is in critical but stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s intensive care unit.

Rivera-Elizarraraz’s funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville. Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
