The announcements of two job fairs this week shows that not all the news about the economy is bad.

Corrections Corporation of America and Lake Lanier Islands are holding job fairs this week in an effort to fill multiple positions inside the county.

CCA, which will run a federal detention facility in the former Hall County jail, will hold a career fair Wednesday with the intention of hiring 14 employees in the health care field.

The corporation already has received a "huge" response from applicants seeking about 160 other jobs — from security to administrative and educational — at the soon-to-open immigration detention facility on Main Street in Gainesville, according to Louise Grant, vice president of communications.

CCA needs nurses, contract dental assistants, dentists, psychiatrists and physicians at Wednesday’s job fair, which will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Georgia Department of Labor Gainesville Career Center, according to a news release.

One not need have a medical degree to find a job this week, however.

Lake Lanier Islands Resort will hold a job fair from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to attract a variety of employees to work at the resort this summer. All seasonal positions are open as well as a few, full-time positions, including one for a golf professional and another for an executive chef, according to the resort’s Web site.

The Web site states that applicants should bring two forms of identification to the job fair and that drug tests will be performed on site.
