Gainesville’s Dhruv Gaur competes Monday in ‘Jeopardy!’ tournament semifinals

Dhruv Gaur is set to compete Nov. 11 on "Jeopardy!" in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions.

Nov. 11 update: Dhruv Gaur of Gainesville will compete Nov. 11 in the semifinals of “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions. The show airs 7:30 p.m. on WXIA-TV in Gainesville. 


Previous story: Dhruv Gaur, of Gainesville, won his quarterfinal match Tuesday, Nov. 5, and will move on to the “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions semifinals.

Gaur held the lead at the end of the first and second rounds.

The final question was: “In 1840, this New England state was home to 24 of the 100 most populous U.S. urban places; now, its capital is its only one in the top 100.”

Gaur answered correctly with, “What is Massachusetts?” 

He will move on to the semifinal matches next week. 

Gaur first competed on “Jeopardy!” in April 2018, winning the $100,000 college tournament grand prize.

This time, he competed against Rachel Lindgren, an astronomy interpreter from Bend, Oregon, and Rob Worman, an engagement manager from Edina, Minnesota.

Worman won six games and took home $133,900 in winnings, while Lindgren won five games for $75,999 in winnings.

The winner of this tournament will walk away with a $250,000 grand prize. Second place gets $100,000, and third place will receive $50,000.
