Cadet 1st Lt. DoYeun Kim, a Riverside Military Academy senior, has been selected as a 2014 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
Around 1.5 million juniors from more than 22,000 high schools entered the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
Kim is one of 16,000 semifinalists in the 2014 program. He will have the opportunity to compete with other semifinalists for an estimated 8,000 National Merit Scholarships totaling $35 million. The students must fulfill other requirements including submission of an essay to achieve the finalist level of competition and be eligible to earn the Merit Scholar title.
In February, students will receive notification of their advancement to the finalist level of competition. Scholarships will be offered to the selected recipients during spring 2014.
