How much: Free

Up-and-coming guitarist Skyler Passmore, 16, will play a solo show this Saturday at Inman Perk Coffee on the downtown Gainesville square.

The free show will feature a mix of alternative rock favorites, some classics from the 1960s and ’70s and even a few original songs, said the junior at Chestatee High School.

“I play a lot of alternative covers and I write my own songs,” said Passmore in a phone interview with The Times. “I like playing a lot of Radiohead and grunge music, but I play a lot of ’60s, ’70s, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan.”

The show will be a simple set-up: Just Passmore and his acoustic guitar. Although, technically the guitar isn’t his. He nabbed it form his older brother after his brother decided he didn’t want to play it.

“It was for my brother but he never picked it up, so I decided to steal it from him,” he said, adding that he started playing guitar in the seventh grade.

And as for Saturday’s show, Passmore said he likes to mix up the music to please the audience. And while he’s inspired by the music of Dylan and the early 1990s grunge era, his original tunes convey a different sound.

“Most people say they enjoy it, unless they’re lying to me,” he joked of his performances. “I play a little something for everyone. And they have really good coffee there.”
