Major League Baseball umpire Marvin Hudson, who helped call the 2016 World Series, will be the guest speaker at the Piedmont College P-Club Luncheon and Hall of Fame Induction ceremony Saturday, Feb. 11, in Demorest.

The event will be at noon in the Student Commons at the Demorest campus.

Hudson will talk about his career behind the plate, first as a catcher for the Piedmont Lions from 1983–1986 and then as an MLB umpire since 1999.

Part of the six-man crew working the 2016 World Series between the Cubs and Indians, Hudson called the balls and strikes in Game 4 and was on the third base line when the Cubs won the historic Game 7 in the 10th inning to end their 108-year “curse.”

Hudson will be inducted into the Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame along with fellow Lion baseball player Evan Nissley of Jefferson and basketball standout Nikki Sosebee Wood of Talmo.

Nissley graduated from Piedmont in 2008 as a four-year starter with an impressive row of numbers. Nissley ranks fourth in hits for the Lions since they joined the NCAA in 2004. He is No. 3 in runs scored and in stolen bases, and his bat and outfield play earned him the 2008 Conference Tournament MVP award as the Lions beat Lagrange College for the title.

Wood is also a member of the Class of 2008 and earned a master’s degree in education from Piedmont in 2010. Wood scored more than 1,000 points during her four years on the court and was named the 2005 Conference Freshman of the Year and the 2008 Conference Player of the year.
