The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia has announced the 20th annual Mutt Strut 5K (formerly called the Stray Pet Strut) will be held April 17.

The annual event is one of the premier fundraising events for the HSNEGA with all proceeds benefiting the shelter’s operations and the animals in its care.

"The Mutt Strut has been a great draw for runners and walkers alike for many years," said Rick Aiken, president of the HSNEGA.

"We are always very appreciative of the community’s support of this event and hope 2011 will be our best year to date."

The 5K will take place at the American Legion Post, located at 2342 Riverside Drive. The event also includes a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk where participants can bring their pets to walk with them as long as they are vaccinated, leashed, non-aggressive and in good physical condition.

The 5K is part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Series, and finish line results will be provided by Classic Race Services. Awards will be given in several divisions.

Registration for the event begins at 1:30 p.m. with the 1 Mile Walk starting at 2 p.m. and the 5K beginning at 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is $20; day of the race registration is $25.
