The Piedmont College Chorale, Chamber Singers and Orchestra are joining together to present the spring Great Composers Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, in the Chapel at the campus in Demorest. As a group, the ensembles will perform "Jubilate Deo" by Benjamin Britten and "Ubi Caritas" by Ola Gjeilo. Britten’s piece is composed in English and based on Psalm 100, a psalm of thanksgiving. Norwegian composer Gjeilo’s piece premiered in North America at the 2007 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. The Chamber Singers and Piedmont Orchestra with Louise Bass on organ will perform "Psalm 148" by Gustav Holst, which was written in 1910 for the inauguration of the new organ at the St. Paul’s Girls’ School. Other pieces to be performed include Beethoven’s "Symphony No. 5," performed by the Piedmont Orchestra, and music by Bruckner performed by the Piedmont Chorale, Orchestra, soprano Andrea Price, alto Donna Bunn James, tenor Jonathan Pilkington and bass David Jones. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors. Admission is free to Piedmont faculty, staff, and students with their ID cards.
