Ever wondered how a lump of clay becomes a beautiful work of art? This week, ceramics artists Derek Hambly and Rose Esson-Dawson are demonstrating their technique for students in the Piedmont College art studio. Their work will be on display at the Piedmont College Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art through Feb. 5. A reception for the show, titled "Confluence," will be held at 6 p.m., today, in the museum located on Georgia Street in downtown Demorest. New England native Hambly was mentored at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass., where he earned his bachelor of arts degree with concentrations in fine art, crafts and history. He went on to earn his master of fine arts degree from Kent State University and is currently the Director of Ceramics at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, Calif. Esson-Dawson is currently at the Worcester Center for Craft in Worcester, Mass., where she is the artist-in-residence. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in studio art from Bridgewater State College and a master of fine arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design.
