Mountain Laurel fest blooms in Clarkesville

Classic cars, competitive runners and creative float makers will roll or race into Clarkesville to participate in the activities of the 53rd annual Mountain Laurel Festival.

The Mountain Laurel Festival will begin Friday, May 15, with a street dance from 5-7 p.m. The American Flyers Show Bank will follow from 7-9 p.m. and fireworks will end the evening at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, a 5K race will kick off activities at 8:30 a.m. at Clarkesville Elementary School at 6539 Ga. 115.

The Kids Fun Run is set for 8 a.m. and cost $10 per child from ages 5 to 12. The senior stroll will start 30 minutes later and costs $25.

The 5K Road Race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and cost $35 the day of the race.

Proceeds will benefit the HMC Foundation Inc.

Festival activities will continue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. ranging from arts and craft and a KidsZone. Food and music also will be on the square.

A parade will march through town at 10 a.m. with the theme of “New Beginnings.” Lineup starts at 8:30 a.m. behind the Habersham County School Board.

A car show will occur from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 555 Monroe St. behind the old courthouse in downtown Clarkesville. Registration is from 9–11 a.m. and cost $20.

The Duck Race in the Soque will be at 3:30 p.m. to close out Saturday events.
