Bear on the Square celebrates mountain charm

It's just not spring until the bear arrives.

Bear on the Square, that is.

Dahlonega will hold the 12th annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival Friday through Sunday in various venues around town.

Festival admission is free, but prices for individual concerts may vary.

Featured musicians include Grammy nominees Norman and Nancy Blake, known for their performances with Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson. They will perform at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Friday's events begin at noon with a Bluegrass Jam at the Vickery House. Events on Saturday get started at 10 a.m. and include children's activities, Appalachian storytelling and more bluegrass jams.

On Sunday, events include Native American storytelling, a gospel jam and a traditional African-American string band, the Chocolate Drops. Sunday's events also begin at 10 a.m.
