When he sat down in a room full of journalists at the Carter Center to talk about the cancer that has spread to several parts of his body, Jimmy Carter was quite calm and collected in discussing his reaction to the dreaded diagnosis. At first, he recounted, “I thought I just had a few weeks left. But I was surprisingly at ease.”
