Gainesville High graduate A.J. Johnson was named to the Freshman All-America Team by Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) after recording 80 tackles and starting 10 games as a freshman linebacker for the University of Tennessee this season.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Johnson was the only true freshman to have three double-figure tackle games, after recording 36 tackles in a three game span (12.0 per game) against No. 2 LSU, No. 1 Alabama, and No. 9 South Carolina.

Johnson was The Times Area Football Player of the Year in 2010.
