Local golf: Costello and Virgin win at Hammer's Glen

The Tenth Annual Futrell Invitational Golf Tournament was held at Hammer’s Glen Golf and Country Club in Homer on Tuesday.

First place in the two-man, best-ball stroke game was Jack Costello and Stu Virgin with a net score of 59. Second place went to Gary Myers and Paul Payne with a 61 and third place went to Roger Futrell and Gary Palmer with a 64.

The team of AJ Kiker and Don Gage finished in a tie for four place with the team of Dave Gleason and Artie Wise with a score of 66.

Closest to the pin winners were Dick Freeman (No. 2 and No. 6), Roger Futrell (No. 13) and Costello (No. 17).

Paul Payne won the Low Gross Award and the Sand Bagger Award, Gary Myers won the Tail Dragger Award and Ron Hopley won the Old Timer Award.

CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a low-gross, low-net game at Chattahoochee Golf Course on Tuesday.

The first flight low-gross was won by Ann Hollbaugh and the low-net was won by Violet Reynolds.

The low-gross second flight winner was Carolyn Paler and low-net winner was Johann Stone.

Closest to the pin winners were Stone (No. 3) and Hollbaugh (No. 17).

DPG: The DPG played matches Wednesday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Wednesday’s individual match was won by Charley Kilby with a +7. In the team competition, Billy Corbin and Dave Jetter won with a +9. The team of Dwight Miller and Jerry Shell took second with a +2.

Friday, Horace Smallwood won the individual match with a +5 and Denis Jordan and Miller tied for second with a +2.
