The action in both basketball and wrestling is starting to heat up in this the first week of February.

Wrestlers are beginning the trek to the state traditional championships.

Basketball subregion play is hitting its stride this week with plenty of subregion contests that will help determine the pecking order for upcoming region tournaments in Region 7-AAA and Region 8-AA.

This weekend, wrestlers will compete with area traditional meets in Area 7-AAA and Area 8-AA.
West Forsyth will look to win the traditional meet in 7-AAA at Creekview, after winning the Area Duals last month in its own gym.

The traditional meet is different with wrestlers competing individually, as opposed to as a team during duals competition.

Other teams looking to make a run are Gilmer, Creekview, White County, Lumpkin County and Flowery Branch.

In Area 8-AA, its not mystery that Jefferson is going to be the team to beat at the traditionals at Fannin County. The Dragons already have a Duals state title under their belt this season. Jefferson will start its trek to winning a ninth straight traditional state title.

The state sectionals for wrestling are Feb. 13-14.

The traditional state championships are Feb. 20-21 for all classifications at the Gwinnett Arena.
