The North Hall High baseball program didn’t have to go far to find the new head coach for the 2017 Class 3A state champs.

Five-year assistant coach Trevor Flow was tabbed for promotion to the role of head coach, following former coach Trent Mongero’s decision earlier this month to leave for the same position at Glynn Academy in Brunswick.

“I’m extremely humbled by the outpouring of support,” said Flow, who was officially offered the position Friday.

The new North Hall coach said communication with players has been primarily through text messages since the decision came down and he was offered the position.

Flow is extremely reverent about stepping in to helm the program once led by Mongero, who is a man he considers a close friend and mentor.

“I’ve learned so much working with coach Mongero,” Flow said. “He was National High School Baseball Coach of the Year this season for good reason.”

Initially, Flow was offered an assistant coaching position at Glynn Academy so he could work with Mongero.

“We always said we kind of wanted to go as a package,” said Flow.

Flow, a single father to a 4-year-old son, said having family near by, including his parents who reside in Hall County, was a big factor in his decision to remain at North Hall.

“It’s been a whirlwind for me these past few weeks,” Flow added. “I don’t even feel like my summer’s even started yet.”

The new North Hall head coach was behind its dominant pitching staff, which finished the state championship season with a 2.07 combined ERA. During his five seasons as the Trojans’ pitching coach, their pitching staff combined for a 2.22 ERA and 29 shutout victories.

This is Flow’s second time being a head coach. In 2012, he led Stephens County during the final year of six seasons on staff with its baseball program.
