Buford and Union County each won their first round games in Thursday's action at the Class AA softball finals in Columbus. They will now meet in the second round at 5:30 p.m. today.
Union County knocked off Screven County, while the Wolves defeated Vidalia, 6-0.
Karly Fullem led Buford, striking out nine while allowing one hit and a walk in a complete-game effort. She also went 1-for-2 and drove in a run.
Chelsie Thomas bolstered the Buford offense, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Alysha Rudnik added a run-scoring double.
