High School Scoreboard: West Hall remains perfect in 7-AAA

The West Hall High softball team stayed unbeaten in Region 7-AAA with a 5-0 win against Gainesville on Tuesday at Lanier Point Softball Complex.

The Lady Spartans’ Morgan Strickland and Emily Hammond combined to shut out the Lady Red Elephants.

Hammond also hit a two-run home run for West Hall (8-1, 3-0 Region 7-AAA).

Alex Wright scored on a sacrifice fly by Strickland in the fifth inning for West Hall, which was followed by a RBI single by Kiley Kirkland.

West Hall visits Flowery Branch at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Gainesville (5-8, 1-4 Region 7-AAA) plays Creekview at 4 p.m. and Union County at 7 p.m. today at Creekview in the Buford Invitational.

Buford 8, Hebron Christian 0

Tricia Warbington pitched a complete game shutout for the Lady Wolves to earn her first win of the season in the Buford Invitational on Tuesday in Buford.

Kallie Case and Melissa Dickie each went 2-for-3 for Buford (6-2). Brandi Hellemn and Samantha Ramey each went 1-for-3. Hellemn also had two RBIs and a run scored.

Buford continues the Buford Invitational today when they play host to Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. and Stephens County at 7 p.m.

Jefferson 7, Banks County 2

Brittany Smith, Callie Holloway, Brianna Caudell and Erin Knight each had two hits for the Lady Dragons on Tuesday in Homer.

Knight also had three RBIs for Jefferson (5-3, 1-0 Region 8-AA). Holloway and Caudell added two RBIs each.

Kara Perry recorded six strikeouts and picked up the win for the Lady Dragons.

Hayley Baird and Brittany Cook led the Leopards (6-7, 0-1 Region 8-AA) with two hits.

Jefferson plays Wesleyan at 4 p.m. and Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. today at Forsyth Central in the Buford Invitational. Banks County visits East Hall at 5:55 p.m. today.

North Hall 6, West Forsyth 0

Megan Rogers pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 batters in the Lady Trojans’ win Tuesday in Cumming.

Rogers also contributed at the plate with two hits and two RBIs for North Hall (6-2, 4-1 Region 7-AAA). Brittany Smith went 2-for-4 and Madison Savage had three RBIs for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall visits White County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday to take on the Lady Warriors.

VOLLEYBALL

Buford wins two on the road

The Lady Wolves picked up two wins against St. Francis (25-14, 25-4) and Mt. Paran (30-28, 25-14) on Tuesday in Kennesaw.

Hallye Jenkins led Buford (5-3, 1-0 Area 4-A/AA) with seven kills against St. Francis, and six kills and two digs against Mt. Paran.

Denee Badois had seven aces against St. Francis. Kirsten Nappi had eight assists and Elizabeth Darden had nine digs against Mt. Paran.

Buford visits West Hall at 5 p.m. Thursday in a tri-match against West Hall and Jefferson.

North Georgia Christian wins home opener

The Lady Chargers opened their home schedule with a win against Loganville Christian (22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 13-25, 15-10) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Katherine Dunlap had one ace, eight assists and two digs for the Lady Chargers. Ashley Valentine had three aces and one kill. Jackie Smith had one ace and three kills. Ashley Goodson had seven aces, two kills and one dig. Bekah Skelton had three assists, one block and two digs.

CROSS COUNTRY

North Hall boys win Chestatee Invitational

The North Hall boys cross country team took first place at the War Eagle Invitational on Tuesday at Chestatee High School.

Nolan Clark finished first for the Trojans with a time of 17 minutes, 34 seconds. Ty McCormick finished second with a time of 18:21, Cody Burger finished fifth with a time of 18:42 and Brandon Lawson finished sixth with a time of 18:54.

West Hall and Gainesville finished in second and third place.

The Lady Trojans finished third overall in the girls’ race. Trice Sweet led North Hall, finishing sixth.
North Hall will compete in the Berry Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Lady War Eagles finish second at Invitational

Kelsey Neukum finished in second place, Kathryn Barnett finished seventh, and Cara Martin finished eighth to lead Chestatee to a runner-up finish at the War Eagle Invitational on Tuesday at Chestatee High School.
