Chewning leads Chestatee to win over Stephens County

Scott Chewning had 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, and the Chestatee High baseball team held off a late rally from Stephens County to win 10-7 on Friday in Gainesville.

Chewning, who earned the win, added a two-run home run and two runs scored from the plate, while Brice Beck hit a two-run double and Mike Crawford added a two-run triple for Chestatee, which visits North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

WHITE COUNTY 11, WEST HALL 0: David Sosebee (3-0) threw a complete-game, five-inning shutout, while Hayden Cummins went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a double in the win Friday in Cleveland.

Bo Medlock went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for White County (7-1, 6-1 Region 8-AAA), which visits Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Jake Shirley and Chandler Newton each had a double for West Hall, which hosts Lanier at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 17, PRINCE AVENUE 6: The Eagles scored two or more runs in all five innings Friday to pick up their first win of the season. Alec Ruppenthal went 5-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBIs to lead Riverside (1-11, 1-6 Region 8-A), while Mason Pope added a home run and two RBIs on 2-for-3 hitting. Angernee Seymour went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Jacob Harrison earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts. The Eagles play Towns County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hiawasse.

BUFORD 18, AVONDALE 1: Avery Levuz threw a three-inning complete game with six strikeouts and no walks in the win Friday in Atlanta. Levuz also went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Buford (8-1, 2-0 Region 6-AA), while Kyler Berrett (2-for-2) added a home run, double and two RBIs. Adam Hampton went 3-for-3 for the Wolves, who host Therrell at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

JACKSON COUNTY 10, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 6: The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to break the tie, and Austin Robinson closed out the bottom half to give them the win Friday in Lexington. Robinson also added a run scored and two RBIs for Jackson County (4-7, 4-4 Region 8-AA), while Kelley Moates went 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Trey Sorrells added two hits with two RBIs and a double, and Jalen Banks added a double and two runs scored for Jackson County, which hosts Hart County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

NORTH HALL BOYS 2, MONROE AREA 1: Tony Gonzales and Zack Tibbs each scored Friday in the win. Cody Pfister recorded an assist for North Hall, which visits West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 8, MONROE AREA 0: Ali Souther scored twice in the win Friday in Monroe. Kelly Miller, Alex Lawson, Tristan Bailey, Taylor Knight, Danielle Berry and Kelsey Underwood also scored for North Hall, which visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 1, WINDER-BARROW 0: Megan Kirk scored midway through the first half and Flowery Branch (7-5, 6-0 Area 8-AAAA) held on to win Friday at home. Lauren Dunn earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Falcons, who host Apalachee at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 2, OCONEE COUNTY 1 (PKs): Brittany Martin scored Johnson’s only regulation goal of an assist from Kayla Madsen with over 25 minutes remaining in the first half Friday in Oakwood. Macy Collins recorded 14 saves in goal for Johnson, which faces White County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Cleveland.


BUFORD GIRLS 4, APALACHEE 3 (PKs): Caitlyn Dawkins had a goal and an assist to the lead the Lady Wolves to the win Friday in Winder. Jessi Vaverka and Tara Dambach added a goal each for Buford (8-1, 1-1 Area 6-AA), which visits Decatur at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

WEST HALL GIRLS 3, STEPHENS COUNTY 1: Katie Forrester, Rachel Kline and Kristen Newstrom each scored for the Lady Spartans (7-3, 4-2 Area 8-AAA) on Friday in Oakwood. West Hall hosts North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

WEST HALL BOYS 4, STEPHENS COUNTY 1: Chandler Ligas scored two goals and added an assist in the win Friday in Oakwood. Darwin Mejia and Edgar Jaimes each added a goal, with Jaimes recording two assists for West Hall (6-3-1, 4-2 Area 8-AAA), which hosts North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
