Mason pitches five scoreless innings, Gainesville tops Franklin County 7-0

Stephen Mason held Franklin County without a hit through five innings of work, and the Gainesville offense backed him up with a big sixth inning to take a 7-0 win on Monday in Carnesville.

Mason struck out six and walked three before leaving the game after the Red Elephants (6-1, 4-1 Region 8-AAA) scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Skyler Weber led Gainesville, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Will Maddox was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Mason also had a double and drove in two runs.

Gainesville will host Lumpkin County at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

NORTH HALL 13, LUMPKIN COUNTY 2: Chris Stevens had a grand slam, two-run home run and seven RBIs in a win against Lumpkin County on Monday in Dahlonega. Whit Bowen finished with three hits, including an extra base hit for North Hall (6-1, 5-0 Region 8-AAA).

Hamilton Harper added a solo home run for the Trojans, which face Stephens County at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday in Toccoa.

WEST HALL 9, STEPHENS COUNTY 5: T.J. Williams had a two-run home run and Turk Taylor had a solo shot for the Spartans (3-5, 1-5 Region 8-AAA) on Monday in Oakwood.

Jake Shirley added two hits and scored a pair of runs for West Hall, while Taylor Waggoner also had two hits.

The Spartans visit Franklin County at 5:55 on Wednesday.

JOHNSON 22, MONROE AREA 5: The Knights finished with 17 hits on Monday in Monroe. Chris White led Johnson with a grand slam, solo home run and four total hits on Monday.

He finished the game with five RBIs. A.J. Benefield two home runs, a double and six RBIs for the Knights, and Trae Wilson added two doubles and a single.

Jordan Green also had three hits for the Knights, which visit Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday.

BUFORD 15, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 8: The Wolves slammed five home runs, including three solo shots from Mason Gentry, to take a come-from-behind win in Lilburn.

Troy Herterick was 2 for 4 with a three-run blast and four RBIs and Jamie Ritchie added a two-run shot and drove in three runs, while Gentry finished with four RBIs.

Avery Labuz picked up the win in relief, yielding one unearned run on four hits in three innings.

Buford (5-1) will host Cross Keys at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in its Region 6-AA opener.

UNION COUNTY 10, EAST HALL 0: The Panthers picked up a mercy-rule win in six innings, led by 13 hits and Brock Gordon's strong showing on the mound in Blairsville.

Gordon worked four hitless innings and struck out seven while walking none. Coleman Sullivan led the offense, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Zach Odom was 3 for 4 with three runs and RBI, Dalton Everett was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Andrew Walker went 2 for 3 and scored twice for the Panthers (6-2, 2-1 Region 8-AA).

Union County hosts Rabun County at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

WHITE COUNTY 9, WALNUT GROVE 4: Justin Hester entered the game in the second inning for the Warriors (5-1, 5-1 Region 8-AAA) and only allowed one hit and one walk in 4 2/3 innings of work on Monday in Cleveland.

Dylan Lee and David Sosebee each had a pair of hits for White County, while Kyle Mills had a double and three runs driven in.

White County plays host to Carrollton at 5:30 on Thursday.

JEFFERSON 6, JACKSON COUNTY 3: Andrew Bartek had a solo home run for the Dragons (3-5, 2-4 Region 8-AA) on Monday in Jefferson. Max Ford had two hits and also scored twice for Jefferson, which visits Elbert County at 5:55 p.m. on Friday in Elberton.

Austin Robinson had two hits for the Panthers.

Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory and Morgan Reed all won in singles for the Lady Falcons on Monday at Longwood Park in Gainesville.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 4, JOHNSON 1: Cris Dilidili and A.J. Morris won in singles for the Falcons on Monday. Flowery Branch also swept doubles action with Luke Smith/Anthony Monacella and Isaac Black/Christopher Hedden winning.

FORSYTH CENTRAL BOYS 4, CHESTATEE 1: Jonathan Cook won at No. 1 singles for the War Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Forsyth Central's Ray Joyner on Monday in Gainesville.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 3, FORSYTH CENTRAL 2: The undefeated doubles team of Emily Elder/Sarah Beth Tankersley won by the score of 6-2, 6-2 against Forsyth Central on Monday in Gainesville. Winning for the Lady War Eagles in singles were Tiffani Poole and Fernanda Arcaraz.
