Lorentz steals 6 bases as Gainesville routs West Hall

Michael Lorentz tied a Red Elephants single-game record with six stolen bases as the Gainesville High baseball team defeated West Hall, 11-1, in five innings Friday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Will Maddox hit a home run with two RBIs and Skyler Weber went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Red Elephants (5-1, 3-1 Region 8B-AAA). Hunter Anglin earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game with three strikeouts and surrendering West Hall’s only run in the top of the first inning. Gainesville visits Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

WHITE COUNTY 10, STEPHENS COUNTY 1:
Hayden Cummins hit two home runs on Friday in Toccoa. Cummins finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Luke Crumley went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Dillon Lee went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored for White County (3-1, 3-1 Region 8A-AAA). David Sosebee (2-0) earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings with seven strikeouts. White County hosts Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Cleveland.

CHESTATEE 8, MONROE AREA 5:
Zack Sweet threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts to lead the War Eagles to the win Friday in Gainesville. Alex Moore hit a two-run home run with three RBIs and two hits, while Scott Chewning scored three runs and stole two bases for Chestatee, which visits White County at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

JACKSON COUNTY 13, EAST JACKSON 3:
Quinn Grogan went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBIs and two doubles to lead the Panthers to the win Friday at home. John Florentine went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Tony Holton drove in three runs on 2-for-5 hitting. Trey Sorrells went 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBIs and a triple for Jackson County (2-5, 2-2 Region 8B-AA), which hosts North Oconee at 5 p.m. Saturday.

NORTH HALL 15, FRANKLIN COUNTY 5:
Eli Gilmer (four RBIs) and Wade Phillips (three RBIs) led the Trojans to the win Friday in Gainesville. Chris Stevens earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts for North Hall (5-1, 4-0 Region 8A-AAA), which plays Lumpkin County at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Dahlonega.

Golf

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS WIN TRI-MATCH: Chris Gay carded a 48 to lead Lakeview (209) to the win against Athens Christian (213) and East Jackson (215) on Friday at Double Oaks Golf Course in Commerce. Franklin Turner fired a 50 for Lakeview, which faces East Hall at 4 p.m. March 24 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Soccer

JOHNSON BOYS 7, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0:
Ariel Mejia scored two goals to lead the Knights to the win Friday in Gainesville. Jesus Muniz, Rogo Mojica, Juan Morfin and Jonathan Mendoza rounded out the scoring for Johnson (8-0, 6-0 Area 8B-AAA), which received one goal courtesy of a Franklin County own goal. The Knights visit Stephens County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 10, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0: Kayla Madsen scored four goals and added two assists as the Lady Knights won by mercy rule with eight minutes, 56 seconds remaining Friday in Gainesville. Kayln Dumanowsky added two goals and three assists for Johnson (7-0-1, 6-0 Area 8B-AAA), which visits Stephens County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 3, BANKS COUNTY 2: Led by two goals from Stephen Reynolds, the Lions (3-2-1, 0-1 Area 8A) won Friday in Homer. Jackson Wells added one goal for Lakeview, which visits Hebron Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 1, BANKS COUNTY 0:
Katie Zottnick scored the only goal Friday in Homer. Lakeview (3-2) plays Hebron Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Dacula.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 4, CLARKE CENTRAL 2:
Kylie Fain, Megan Kirk, Cassidy Elrod and Jenn Moreno each scored Friday in Athens. Flowery Branch (5-5, 4-0 Area 8-AAAA) visits Madison County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

JEFFERSON BOYS 3, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 2:
Zach Bost and Ben Tyler won singles matches in straight games for the Dragons on Thursday in Jefferson. The Dragons visit Elbert County at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

JEFFERSON GIRLS 3, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 2: Tristan McGarity won singles without losing a game, while Taylor Bost and Bell Blakenship won in straight sets for the Lady Dragons on Thursday in Jefferson. The Lady Dragons visits Elbert County at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
