High school softball: Buford rolls past East Paulding in first round of 6A state playoffs

Buford swept the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs with an 8-0 win in the first game and 21-10 in the nightcap in the best-of-three series with East Paulding on Monday. With the wins, Buford (28-4) advances to face River Ridge in another best-of-three series, starting with a doubleheader Thursday in Buford. 

Against East Paulding, senior Abbi Perkins had a grand slam, three doubles and seven RBIs in Game 2. 

Also for Buford, junior Taylor Malvin was 3 for 4 with a triple, four RBIs and scored four runs, while sophomore Chloe Hatcher had a pair of doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs. 

In Game 1, sophomore Olivia Duncan threw six innings with seven strikeouts and allowed four hits. 

At the plate, Mackenzie Pickens had a pair of doubles with two RBIs and a run scored. Adrianna Martinez had a two-run homer for the Lady Wolves, while Emma Castorri had three doubles and scored twice.
