High school baseball: Banks County splits with Westminster

The Banks County High baseball team split a Class AA playoff doubleheader with Westminster, losing 3-2 and winning 2-1 on Wednesday in Homer.

The Wildcats scored twice in the seventh inning to rally past the Leopards (19-9) and take Game 1.

Zack Dale led Banks County at plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Stephen Smith had two hits and a run. Justin Gibbs and Justin Bowen each doubled.

The Leopards countered the Game 1 loss with a win in Game 2. They scored two runs in the fourth inning and secured the lead the rest of the way.

Tyler McEntire pitched a complete game and allowed three hits to earn the win for Banks County. Wesley Angel and Kyle Smith each had runs scored. Jeff Smith and Bowen each had RBIs.

Game 3 of the series is 4 p.m. Thursday in Homer.
