Gainesville's Ralston punches ticket to U.S. Junior Amateur

ATHENS — Gainesville High rising junior Spencer Ralston has qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship for the second year in a row.

He earned the second of four spots on the line at University of Georgia Golf Course with a two-round score of 3-under 139 as the qualifier wrapped up Tuesday.

Steven Fisk of Stockbridge had a 138 to lock in the first qualifying slot. Bryson Nimmer of Bluffton, S.C., totaled 142 and Luukas Alakulppi of Valdosta a 144 to take the final two spots.

The 67th annual U.S. Junior Amateur Championship is set for July 21-26 at The Club at Carlton Woods in Woodlands, Texas.

S.M. Lee of Buford tied for ninth at 147, and Gainesville’s Nathan Williams tied for 13th with 148. White County’s Garrett Rowland shot a first-round 84 and Lakeview Academy’s John Jacobs an 86 to miss the cut.

The top four in the qualifier advanced to the U.S. Junior Amateur, with the next two serving as alternates.
