East Hall volleyball wins Rally on the Ridge tournament

The East Hall Lady Vikings won the Rally on the Ridge tournament at Fannin County High on Saturday and improved their record to 31-6.

They won six matches without losing at the volleyball tournament, the second one they’ve won this season. The Vikings set a program record with their 31st victory, breaking the mark of 30 set in 2012.

Allyson Segars had 29 points on serve with 13 aces, 46 kills, two assists and 40 digs to lead East Hall and earn tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Savannah Lindsey’s 29 points on serve, eight aces, three kills, two assists and 79 digs earned her all-tournament recognition.

East Hall beat Gilmer 24-26, 25-21, 17-15 in the championship match after knocking off Coosa 24-26, 25-16, 17-15 in the semifinals.

The Vikings defeated Coosa 25-17, 27-25; Rabun County 25-9, 25-7; Gilmer 25-19, 25-23 and Pickens 25-21, 25-10 to reach the semifinals.

Jessica Chmiel (44 points on serve, 17 aces, 14 kills, 3 blocks, 9 digs), Minette Maldonado (27 points on serve, 8 aces, 12 kills, 5 assists, 32 digs), Ashleigh Burnett (28 points on serve, 8 aces, 14 kills, 8 assists, 1 block, 30 digs), Emily Roberts (40 kills, 3 assists, 4 digs, 5 blocks) and Cassida Shockley (39 points on serve, 11 aces, 17 kills, 28 digs, 91 assists) also had a strong day for the Vikings.

The Lady Vikings open Region 7-AAA play at the East Hall Community Center on Tuesday against Lumpkin County and West Hall.

Games begin at 5 p.m.
