The Gainesville boys soccer team took down Douglas County 7-0 Friday night in the first round of the Class 6A state tournament in Gainesville.
The win sets up the Red Elephants with a matchup against a Chattahoochee team that Gainesville coach Elie Viviant said is among the best the Red Elephants have faced so far this year.
“It’s going to be a tough game,” he said.
Gainesville was led Friday night by Pedro Santos’ hat trick, as well as goals from Erik Sica, Lara Aram and Jose Aguilera.
Viviant said he was largely pleased with the way his team played in the first round, but also admitted it has quite a bit of work to do before taking on the Cougars.
“We are going to have to play well,” Viviant said. “We played very well tonight, but I don’t know if we played well enough for a team like that.”
