High school scoreboard: East Hall volleyball's Lindsey sets program digs record

East Hall High volleyball’s Summer Lindsey set the school record for digs, and coach Ted Deppe picked up his 350th career victory as the Lady Vikings won three of four matches Saturday in Monroe.

East Hall notched wins against Salem (25-4, 25-9), Providence Christian Academy (25-19, 13-25, 15-12) and Clarke Central (25-15, 25-8), though it lost to Apalachee (25-22, 25-17).

Lindsey led the Lady Vikings (27-15) with 40 digs, while teammate Niyah Rucker produced 41 kills and 15 blocks. East Hall’s Savannah Thellman had 54 assists, Holly Poole registered 22 digs and Tessa Rider accumulated 20 digs with 16 kills.

Janelly Lara had 13 digs for the Lady Vikings, who begin the Area 7-3A tournament against Dawson County at 4 p.m. Tuesday.


Gainesville High golfers Ryan Hogan, Davis Weaver and Andrew Hughes are tied for second in the overall division after the first round of the 2017 Gainesville City Junior on Saturday at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.

The Red Elephants trio shot par and sits four strokes behind Canton’s Walker Winslette, who notched a 68. Michael Kallab of North Hall High is in a tie for third place with a 1-over 73, and teammate Bartley Forrester carded a 75 in the opening round.

Gainesville has four other golfers in the overall competition: Brody Simmons (76), Sam Patterson (76), Price Embry (80) and Joshua Forbes (83).

Hughes leads the 14-15 age group, with teammate Zayne Hilderbrand sitting three shots back. In the 10-13 age division, future Red Elephant Brigham Ralston is three strokes off the lead after recording an opening-round 78.

Morgan Nicol of Gainesville is in second place in the girls division with an 89, which is nine shots behind the leader. Chattahoochee will host the final round Sunday.
