DURHAM, N.C. — Miami used a seven-run sixth inning to beat Georgia Tech 8-6 in their opening game of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes (36-18) trailed 2-1 before their big inning and handed Tech's Deck McGuire (10-1) his first loss of the year. Miami had five doubles in the inning.

Tech (34-16-1) narrowed the gap from 8-2 to 8-6 on a two-run double in the sixth by Tony Plagman and a two-run single in the seventh by Jeff Rowland.

The Yellow Jackets opened the ninth with two walks, but Miami closer Kyle Bellamy then set down the side in order. David Gutierrez (3-6) got the win.
