ATLANTA — Georgia Tech has signed top prospect Derrick Favors of South Atlanta High School, giving the Yellow Jackets one of their most highly ranked signees in recent years.
Favors, a 6-foot-9 center, announced in January he picked the Yellow Jackets over Georgia and North Carolina State. He made his decision official by signing with Georgia Tech on Wednesday, the school announced on Thursday.
Favors was named the Naismith national player of the year after averaging 28.1 points and 13.3 rebounds.
He scored 38 points and had 21 rebounds in South Atlanta's Class AAA state championship game victory over Westover.
Georgia Tech's signing class also includes guards Glen Rice Jr. and Mfon Udofia and forwards Kammeon Holsey and Brian Oliver.
