ATHENS — Coach Mark Richt says Georgia’s defense played well but the offense struggled and was sloppy at times in the team’s scrimmage at Sanford Stadium.

After Saturday’s scrimmage, Richt says he is glad the Bulldogs still have three weeks to prepare for the season. Quarterback Aaron Murray completed only 8 of 20 passes for 133 yards, including a 43-yard gain to Logan Gray, the former quarterback who has moved to receiver. Gray had three catches for 70 yards.

Backup quarterback Hutson Mason was 8-of-18 passing for 48 yards. Washaun Ealey had seven carries for 78 yards.
Richt says center Ben Jones will have arthroscopic knee surgery on Sunday. Jones is expected to be ready for the season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 4.
