G-Braves shut out by Durham

With the help of three home runs from outfielder Justin Ruggiano, the Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Braves 7-0 on Saturday night at Gwinnett Stadium.

Following two singles and a walk by G-Braves starter Todd Redmond, Ruggiano cleared the bases with a third-inning grand slam. Durham loaded the bases a second time in the third but Redmond was able to escape without any further damage.

In the fourth inning, Durham shortstop Reid Brignac belted a one-out solo home run to give the Bulls a 5-0 advantage. The next batter, Ruggiano followed suit and smacked his second homer of the game, putting Durham up 6-0. Ruggiano came to the plate again in the sixth inning and finished off the hat trick, smashing his third home run of the game, which led to end result.

Redmond, who allowed six earned runs in 3 À innings was charged with his second loss of the season and is now 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA. Diory Hernandez was the lone bright spot of the night finishing the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Barbaro Canizares was 0-for-4 on Saturday, ending his hitting streak at 13 games.

The G-Braves will take on the Bulls in Game 3 of the four-game set today. Gwinnett’s Tommy Hanson (1-3, 1.65 ERA) will face James Houser (1-1, 5.54 ERA).
