Local weightlifters win gold at Georgia Games

Hall County residents Eric Timms, R. Garry Glenn and William “Buster” Brown each earned gold medals in the Georgia Games powerlifting events on Saturday at Iron Beast Barbell gym in Gainesville.

Timms recorded heaviest fullpower total of the day at 1,265 pounds, squatting 405 pounds, bench pressing 360 pounds and deadlifting 500 pounds to take home the gold in the Men’s Open Raw 220-pound class.

Glenn tallied his second state championship of the year by taking first in the Master’s Men’s 55-59 year-old 220-pound Equipped class with a bench press of 365 pounds and 390 pounds on the second lift.

Brown benched 350 pounds to win the Bench Only Raw 220-pound class.

Steve McHan of Dahlonega won the Master’s Men’s 242-pound Raw Class, going 9 for 9 on the day with a total weight of 1,130 pounds. Clarence Smith of Cleveland bench pressed 245 pounds to win the Men’s Master’s 65-69 year-old 242-pound class.

Gainesville resident Tim Moon, a national champion in the bench press with a lift of 761 pounds this season, elected not to lift Saturday.

Regional events
