In a battle of the top two ranked teams in the country, the North Georgia College & State University softball team were the benefit of a huge error by Alabama-Huntsville and came away with a 8-3 win as part of the Captain D's Classic.

North Georgia (25-3) committed two errors of their own and fell behind 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when all the action would go down.

Katherine Martin started the loud sixth inning with a single back up the middle, which was followed by a groundout by Karlie Gillam.

The Saints would soon put the pressure on the Chargers, drawing back to back walks to load the bases.

LIONS SPLIT WITH MARIETTA COLLEGE:
The Piedmont College baseball program beat the top-ranked NCAA D-III team, Marietta College, 4-1 on Friday but were outhit in the return match Saturday, losing 9-0 at Loudermilk Field.

Saturday's game was more lopsided, as the No. 10 Lions were bested in a rematch and Marietta College took the 9-0 shutout.

A three-run home run to deep left center in the top of the first inning set the tone for the No. 1 Pioneers, who put a five-spot on the board in the opening frame.

Senior Caleb Cochran, the defacto ace on the staff, came in with a 3-1 record and 1.57 ERA, but struggled with his control early on.

The left hander walked three, including two in the first inning alone, which saw eight hitters come to the plate.
