Buford grad leads Montana to victory

University of Montana junior quarterback Justin Roper, a Buford High graduate, led the Grizzlies to a 17-10 win against the University of California-Davis on Saturday in Davis, California. Roper started and finished the game 9-for-19 passing for 143 yards and a touchdown for the Grizzlies (2-0). Roper, who spent three seasons at the University of Oregon before transferring, threw a touchdown pass of 17 yards in the third quarter to receiver Sam Gratton.

Roper’s longest throw was for 61 yards to Dan Beaudin, setting up a 3-yard touchdown run from Chase Reynolds. In the final minute, Montana intercepted a Davis touchdown pass attempt in the end zone to secure the victory.

Montana plays host to Portland State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Missoula, Montana.
