Matthews' 3 TDs spark Lumpkin over Jackson, 26-13

Lumpkin County High senior Zach Matthews toted the football 23 times for 194 yards and three scores in a 26-13 win over Jackson County on Friday at The Burial Grounds in Dahlonega.

The Elite 11 running back scored on runs of 48, 21 and 3 yards for the Indians (1-0).

Matthews’ scoring run of 21 yards with 2:45 left to play sealed the win for Lumpkin County. Indians quarterback Chandler Woodham had 13 runs for 53 yards.

Wesley Wells knocked through field goals of 47 and 25 yards for the Indians.

On Friday, Lumpkin County visits Madison County in Danielsville.
