In the presidential primaries of 2016, Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-declared socialist, ran against Hillary Clinton for the presidency of the United States. Despite collaboration between the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign, Sanders was able to rally many young voters to support him.
