JEFFERSON — A mother and her 13-year-old son are dead and her 47-year-old husband, the child’s father, is in jail on murder charges.
The bodies of Andrea Reeves, 42, and Austin Reeves were discovered by law enforcement responding to a late Wednesday morning 911 call of shots being fired at the family’s Gordon Street residence in Jefferson.
Marty Reeves, 47, was taken into custody by law enforcement, who had weapons drawn as they approached the single-family home located behind the Shell station that faces Athens Street.
The cause of the deaths was homicide by gunshot, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Mike Ayers, who spoke at a 1 p.m. press conference.
Evidence is still being gathered in the joint GBI and Jefferson Police Department investigation.
Crystal Shields was standing by the house that is now a crime scene and said she drives by it every day. She said she always waves to children in the yard and urges them to get away from the road.
She described the incident as scary and said it was like reliving the shooting death of her sister, which happened two years ago Thursday.
