Woman shot in the face in intensive care

The woman who was sitting in a car Wednesday night outside of a Marlow Drive home when she was shot in the face is in intensive care at Grady Hospital.

Lt. Scott Ware said Friday that Yanira Smith-Rodriguez, 37, was in the intensive care unit but considered stable.

Deputies responded to the shooting at 11:50 p.m. Jan. 23 in the 1200 block of Marlow Drive in Gainesville.

“The victim and a male companion were in a vehicle in front of a residence when an unknown male suspect approached,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in a news release. “Without warning, the suspect fired at the victim, striking her in the face, and left the scene.”

The man was not injured, and no information was available on a suspect.

The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office.

No other details were released.
