Two seriously injured in Wednesday wreck on Browns Bridge Road

Two people were seriously injured after a wreck involving a tractor trailer on Browns Bridge Road around 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, according to authorities.

Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Joshua Hedden said Vernon Rico Shoats, 25, of Jonesboro, was driving a tractor trailer westbound on Browns Bridge Road near Hidden Hills Drive.

At the same time, Rachel Victoria Crust, 22, of Alpharetta, was driving eastbound on Browns Bridge Road in a Honda CR-V.

“While traffic was stopped in front of (the tractor trailer), (the tractor trailer) failed to maintain its proper lane.  (The tractor trailer) traveled across the centerline and into the eastbound lane of traffic,” Hedden wrote in an email.

The front of the CR-V struck the front passenger side of the tractor trailer.

The cargo shifted out onto the roadway after the crash.

Crust and passenger Cheryl Renee Cheatham, 38, of Marietta, were seriously injured.

Crust’s three other passengers, Nicholas Andrew Macaluso, 41, of Atlanta, Adam Van Pilkinton, 44, of Marietta, and Lakeem J Winborne, 44, of Alpharetta, suffered minor injuries.

Shoats was not injured in the wreck but was cited for failure to maintain lane.

The roadway was shut down for more than two hours.
