Two Gainesville men are accused of stealing a BB gun and going on a crosstown shooting spree, damaging as many as 30 parked cars.

Gainesville police arrested Ronnie Lance Turner, 26, and Troy R. Turner, 18, on Tuesday afternoon, hours after reports of busted windshields began pouring into the police department.

Lt. Brian Kelly said at last count late Tuesday, 27 cars had been damaged, mostly with broken front or rear windshields.

The drive-by shootings began between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. along the Atlanta Street corridor in south Gainesville toward Skelton Road, Kelly said. Many of the damaged cars were parked in used car lots or apartment complexes, Kelly said.

"It appears these two had nothing better to do than to go around damaging other people’s property," Kelly said.

Kelly would not comment on what led to the quick arrests, except to say "we were able to retrieve evidence that led us to identify them in the investigation."

The gun was shoplifted early Tuesday morning from the Gainesville Wal-Mart, Kelly said.
