A thunderstorm Monday night caused the collapse of a gas pump structure at the Chevron PetroFast Food Store at the corner of Ga. 365 and Ga. 52 in Lula.

Crews worked Tuesday to repair the structure on Cornelia Highway, which had folded after one of the support beams gave way.

“We had some strong winds in that storm last night,” said Andrew Antonio, district manager for Chevron. “They just caused the canopy to flex.”

Antonio said he was unsure how long the repairs would take, as the owners would be working with Hall County engineers to ensure the structure’s stability in the future. But crews had already raised and secured the canopy Tuesday afternoon.

Hall County Fire Services said in a press release late Monday night that “all the utilities were secured and the area was cordoned off. The matter has been referred to Hall County Building Inspections. No injuries or other property damage were reported with this incident.”
