The Monkey Barrel restaurant and bar has operated on Washington Street in downtown Gainesville since 1993. On Dec. 31 the longtime business will be closing.

After 23 years of business, The Monkey Barrel is closing its doors. Its final day will be Dec. 31, and owner Albert Reeves said he has no special plans for the last few days remaining. He booked the final act, Kilo Ali, way before he knew the restaurant and bar would be shut down.
