More county departments will be moving next week to the new Hall County Government Center at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Development Services, now housed on Prior Street, and the Engineering Division, currently in the Joint Administration Building, will be closed Sept. 4 as they move.

Those departments include the following:

  • Business License
  • Planning
  • Building Inspections
  • Environmental Health
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Marshals
  • Engineering

The county will continue moving other departments into the new government center through September and October.

“Consolidating the county’s numerous department locations will improve customer service, increase staff efficiency, reduce operational costs and eliminate office space rentals,” according to a news release from the county.

The government center, formerly the Liberty Mutual building, was purchased using $6.1 million in special purpose local option sales tax dollars. Renovations are budgeted at $2.9 million.

Public information officer leaving Hall

Nikki Young, public information officer with Hall County for the past four years, has announced she’s leaving her post to become public relations manager for the city of Lilburn.

“I gained a lot of experience in my four years at Hall County government and really enjoyed working with the staff and the commission here,” she said Monday. “I know Hall County has a lot of potential and a bright future.”

Young served as the liaison between the county and area media, produced shows for the county’s TV 18, put together a monthly e-newsletter and worked with the Government Scholars Academy, among other duties.

The county has advertised the job on its website and expects filling the opening will take at least one month.
