Search for missing Gainesville woman shifts to investigation of her whereabouts

Gainesville Police Department bike patrols comb the woods of Lanier Point Park for a missing Gainesville woman.

Authorities suspended the search Monday night for a Gainesville woman who has been missing since Wednesday night.

Lizeth Ruby Ruiz, 23, was last seen at the lakeside Lanier Point Park off Dawsonville Highway.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said search units may or may not resume this morning.

“The main focus as of right now has turned toward the investigative side, focusing on the investigation into her whereabouts,” Holbrook said.

Holbrook said the bike patrol unit and other officers searched in the wooded areas Monday, but the search was “primarily focusing on the water.”

“The (Department of Natural Resources), they’re utilizing their robotics, their side-scan sonar,” he said.

The search was suspended over the weekend.

Ruiz was last seen Wednesday night with friends at the park when she got separated from the group.

Authorities searched the area near the lakeside complex Thursday before suspending the search that evening.

The search was cut short Friday due to inclement weather.
