Authorities are investigating a Tuesday night drive-by shooting that left a Gainesville man hospitalized.

Hall County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Strickland said the victim, described as a 40-year-old Hispanic male, was expected to live. He was shot once in the stomach area with a small-caliber handgun fired from a car on First Street, located off Atlanta Highway, Strickland said.

Authorities responded to the 7:30 p.m. shooting and found the victim conscious and alert. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

Strickland said an older-model, dark-colored sedan pulled up next to the man as he was walking along Atlanta Highway. A Hispanic male in the car said something to the victim, then shot him once, Strickland said. The shooter then fled the area.

"At this time we don’t have a suspect," Strickland said.
