Two people were killed in a wreck Friday morning on US 129/Cleveland Highway in North Hall, according to authorities.
Christine Washington, 51, and Cristobal Cruz Sanchez, 66, both of Gainesville, died in the wreck.
The highway was shut down in both directions but has since reopened.
Washington was driving a Honda Fit northbound on Cleveland Highway with Sanchez as her passenger. Denise Wilkinson, 64, of Cleveland, was also traveling northbound in a Cadillac Escalade, and Osee Samedi, 42, of Lawrenceville, was heading southbound on the highway in a Toyota 4Runner.
All three vehicles were negotiating the curve.
“For unknown reasons, (the Honda Fit) crossed the centerline and traveled into the southbound lane. (Samedi) swerved left but was unable to avoid an impact,” according to Georgia State Patrol.
Washington’s car struck Samedi’s car head-on and rotated clockwise onto the west shoulder.
“After impact, (Samedi’s car) rotated clockwise, entered the northbound lane and was struck in the left side with the front of (Wilkinson’s car),” according to state patrol.
Samedi’s car came to rest on the east shoulder, and Wilkinson’s vehicle traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.
Samedi and Wilkinson were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
