The Spout Springs Road bridge over Interstate 85 is scheduled to be closed Jan. 21 as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s I-85 widening project.
The bridge, which serves as a key link between Hall and Gwinnett counties, will be torn down and replaced to account for the wider interstate.
The project is expected to take 180 days, according to the DOT.
In the meantime, motorists will detour along Flowery Branch Road, which runs between Spout Springs and Braselton Highway/Ga. 124. Temporary traffic signals will be placed at both ends of Flowery Branch Road.
The DOT is widening I-85 from Interstate 985 in Gwinnett to U.S. 129 in Jackson County.
The project will be done in two phases and for a total of 24 miles — from I-985 to Ga. 53 in Braselton and then from Ga. 53 to U.S. 129.
The first phase of construction is expected to finish in 2020, according to the DOT.
The cost estimate for both phases is about $440 million.
