The Oakwood City Council voted Monday, Jan. 14, to raise the annual pay of the mayor from $10,800 to $14,400 and council members from $7,200 to $10,800, effective in 2020.

According to state law, one election cycle must be cleared first before the pay takes effect.

Three council members are up for re-election this year: Todd Wilson, Post 3; Dwight Wood, Post 4; and Sheri Millwood, Post 5.

Their four-year terms end on Dec. 31. New terms begin Jan. 1.

The election for those seats will be Nov. 5. Qualifying will be held Aug. 19-21 at City Hall, 4035 Walnut Circle. The fee is $216.

Also currently on the council are Mayor Lamar Scroggs and council members Pat Jones and Stephen Hendrix. Their seats come up for re-election in 2021.
