Gainesville to OK redistricting maps

The Gainesville City Council is expected to approve a new city ward map for council elections and the tax rate for the Gainesville Board of Education at its meeting tonight.

Clermont to remove
old maintenance shop

Clermont City Council tonight will place bids for removing the old maintenance shop and approve imposing a 911 charge for prepaid wireless phone users that is due to a change in state legislation.

Cornelia may purchase wastewater equipment
The Cornelia City Commission tonight will discuss purchasing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition equipment for its wastewater plant. SCADA is a process control system that allows monitoring various sites remotely.

Demorest to hold special election for council seat
Demorest city officials will tonight consider a motion to have a special election to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Bruce Harkness. They’ll also consider a motion to extend city water and sewer beyond the city’s corporate limits and consider adoption of the 2011 property tax millage rate.

Helen moves forward with plans for 2014 SPLOST
At its meeting tonight, Helen City Commission will consider approval of an intergovernmental agreement with White County and Cleveland in order to proceed with a 2014 special purpose local option sales tax vote. Officials also will discuss approval of an arts and craft fair in October.
