A wreck off Ga. 365 in North Hall killed a Homer woman Thursday morning.

Georgia State Patrol and Hall County authorities responded to the accident off Athens Street at 8 a.m., Fire Chief David Kimbrell said.

Rebecca Hughes, 39, of Homer was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Georgia State Patrol trooper A. Allen.

A helicopter had been called but the victim’s condition “worsened too much” and the person was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in an ambulance.

Hughes was driving a Suzuki X4 hatchback and stopped at the intersection of Athens Street and Ga. 365. A Peterbilt box truck, driven by Frank Elliott, 37, of Duluth was traveling north in the left lane on Ga. 365.

Hughes attempted to enter the southbound lane but failed to yield. The front of her vehicle struck the box truck on the left side.

Elliot suffered only minor injuries. No charges have been filed. Hughes was wearing her seat belt.
